International Child Abductions
Our attorneys also have an extremely rare expertise in international child abduction matters. Many of such cases are litigated under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. Some of these cases involve a foreign country that has not signed onto the treaty. In all of these cases, creativity and tenacity can be extremely important in either reuniting or keeping a child with a parent. Past cases have involved children from Ireland, Mexico, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Canada, Singapore, and Argentina. Other cases have involved United States children being taken to Egypt, Australia, and Cuba. Besides helping clients find or retain their children, we have won a $27 million verdict against a private charter company that facilitated an abduction of two children to Egypt. This practice area is led by Phillip Rakhunov.
